At the time, she was studying at the University of Alberta. In 2010, she earned her degree in Mathematics and Technology in Alberta. But she didn’t stop there; she enrolled at a university in Nova Scotia to continue her education.

During her time there, Theresa gained extensive experience teaching both adults and children in schools and beyond. As a certified teacher fluent in French, her knowledge and teaching expertise allowed her to establish a small business focused on tutoring. This led to the creation of her school, FrenchEtVoila. For her, education and entrepreneurship are part of her family legacy, as her mother and grandmother were experienced teacher-entrepreneurs. Theresa decided to follow in their footsteps after relocating to Nova Scotia in 2016.

With two school-aged children of her own, she initially searched for tutors for them. When she couldn’t find suitable options, she decided to teach them herself. Two years later, Theresa realized that many other families shared the same need for French language education.

She drew upon six years of teaching experience and began offering math lessons in French to children.

Founding FrenchEtVoila

Theresa developed the concept for her school during her studies, but financial constraints delayed her plans. She sought resources and support daily to bring her vision to life. In 2018, she found a support service for immigrant entrepreneurs in Canada. This connection introduced her to Jean Zmitakaro from Business Link, a trusted business advisor specializing in commercial and charitable entrepreneurship and immigrant business ventures.

Jean became a mentor and advisor to Theresa. Fluent in French and well-connected with English-language resources, he introduced her to a network of professionals and entrepreneurs. Through this network, Theresa received guidance from advisors and organizations.

Starting her business was challenging, but with support, Theresa gained confidence, refined her business skills, and quickly built her network.

Once the business was up and running, the biggest challenge was promoting it effectively so that people became aware of the available services. Theresa worked tirelessly on developing the curriculum and marketing her business.

One of the most significant hurdles she faced was balancing her roles as a wife, mother, teacher, and entrepreneur. However, she takes pride in her ability to manage these roles and considers her students’ progress and learning achievements as her greatest success.

Growing FrenchEtVoila

Today, Theresa continues to work hard to balance her family and business life. Her school employs 20 staff members, and in 2022, she began expanding the school to offer education opportunities beyond Edmonton. She and her team are also developing specialized programs to provide access to French language education for children and adults worldwide.

By sharing her story, Theresa inspires Edmonton women not to fear challenges, as they are what make people stronger and more confident. She credits her husband, close friends, and fellow entrepreneurs for their unwavering support in her journey.

In 2004, Theresa Job moved to Edmonton from her native Cameroon.
